Poems:

Noah

The number of humans began to increase on the earth
The sons of God married women and they gave birth

The world at that time contained the Nephelim
And the daughters of man had children by them

These were called the ‘heroes of old’
Yet the human race became wicked, their hearts grew cold

The Lord regretted what had come about
He said, “From the face of the earth I will wipe them out!”

But before God would complete this shoah
One man found favor in his eyes, his name Noah

The only man to walk faithfully with God in those days
All other people fully corrupt in their ways

God spoke to Noah, “I will destroy the earth, an ark you must prepare,
For only you, your family, and two of each creature will I spare.”

Noah did as the Lord instructed
Soon the floating shelter constructed

Three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide
Over fifty feet tall, it was 30 cubits high!

Noah had reached the age of 600 years
When the floodwaters came and the heavens shed tears

Forty days and nights the rain fell
But within the ark, all was well

One hundred fifty days later the waters began to subside
On the mountains of Ararat the ark came to reside

Noah sent out a dove to take a peek
It returned with an olive branch in it’s beak

After three hundred and seventy days the ground was dry
God said, “Come out! Be fruitful and multiply!”

So Noah, his family, and the animals made their exit
Noah built an altar to the Lord and He smelled it

The aroma in fact was so pleasing God ordained
He’d never destroy all living creatures again

He promised no more floods, that the earth would remain dry
And as a sign of this covenant, he placed a rainbow in the sky
