Competition Day

Competition day approaches, my first real test
Will I stand atop the podium? A medal on my chest?

Time to get ready, time to lock in
Am I prepared to do what it takes to win?

I imagine my opponent, whoever he might be
He’s grinding hard for the day he gets to fight me

I bet he’s waking up early, taking cold showers
Eating clean and drilling on the mats for hours

He’s probably running and doing calisthenics too
Rolling with the upper belts black, brown, purple, and blue

I’m certain that he trains multiple times per day
Studying techniques with which to improve his BJJ

He’s fast and quick, he’ll take your back
And from your gi remove the slack

He could choke me out, or break my arm
Wants to do me nothing but harm

But it’s not true, anything i’ve said
It’s just a lie, it’s all in my head

There is no need to fear or have anxiety
I’m confident because I know that my opponent…is me
