The number of humans began to increase on the earthThe sons of God married women and they gave birthThe world at that time contained the NephilimAnd the daughters of man had children by themThese were called the ‘Heroes of Old’Yet the human race became wicked, their hearts grew coldThe Lord regretted what had come aboutHe said, “From the face of the earth I will wipe them out!”But before God would complete this shoahOne man found favor in his eyes, his name NoahThe only man to walk faithfully with God in those daysAll other people fully corrupt in their waysGod spoke to Noah, “I will destroy the earth, an ark you must prepare,For only you, your family, and two of each creature will I spare.”Noah did as the Lord instructedSoon the floating shelter constructedThree hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wideOver fifty feet tall, it was thirty cubits high!Noah had reached the age of six hundred yearsWhen the floodwaters came and the heavens shed tearsForty days and nights the rain fellBut within the ark, all was wellOne hundred fifty days later the waters began to subsideOn the mountains of Ararat the ark came to resideNoah sent out a dove to take a peekIt returned with an olive branch in its beakAfter three hundred and seventy days the ground was dryGod said, “Come out! Be fruitful and multiply!”So Noah, his family, and the animals made their exitNoah built an altar to the Lord and He smelled itThe aroma in fact was so pleasing God ordainedHe’d never destroy all living creatures againHe promised no more floods, that the earth would remain dryAnd as a sign of this covenant, he placed a rainbow in the sky
