Many times I’ve stepped into Reggie’s officeTo ask a dumb question, I was a noviceHe’d say, “Come on Justin, use your brain!You’re going to make me go insane!If you come with a problem, try to come with an answer or twoBecause finding solutions is what we do.”The answer is often a simple thing,If only you did a bit of investigating.Check the project folder, what is in there?A file or document with the answer somewhere?Is it in the proposal, is it in the plans?Did you check the math first with your own two hands?What about the design manual, or the specifications?Or the geotechnical report recommendations?Did you pick up the phone to call the reviewer?Visit the site or at least use google earth street viewer?What’s in shown in the Bid Tab? The construction contract?We don’t need to guess because we have the factsThe survey will tell us what existsThe agency website the submittal checklistsThe appraisal district, the FEMA maps, the National Wetlands InventoryTexas Railroad Commission, and the Water Districts Database tell the storySo before you walk in and ask it of themMake sure you’ve gone through BEFORE PM.
